My Teaching Practice in Bangkok
Integrating STEAM Education in Bangkok
Hi! I’m Les Huysmans, an educator, educational coach, and mentor based in Bangkok. My mission is to guide students through their academic and creative journeys with a distinctive blend of educational philosophies. Here’s a glimpse into my teaching approach – one that’s as enriching as it is empowering.
My Teaching Practice in Bangkok
My classroom in Bangkok is a vibrant mosaic. It draws inspiration from the International Baccalaureate (IB) and International Primary Curriculum (IPC) frameworks. These models champion thematic, inquiry-based learning. They urge students to dive deep into subjects and uncover connections that spark both their intellect and curiosity.
Additionally, I incorporate the best of Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches. I emphasise child-led, experiential learning. This method fosters autonomy and encourages students to explore their interests at their own pace. Thus, creating a joyful and discovery-filled learning environment is always my goal.
Integrating STEAM Education in Bangkok
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education is at the heart of my teaching. This integrated approach ensures a well-rounded development of critical skills. From scientific inquiry and technological literacy to an engineering mindset, artistic creativity, and mathematical thinking, STEAM covers it all. This method not only spans a broad spectrum of subjects but also cultivates critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a lifelong love for learning.
Moreover, integrating STEAM in my classroom has shown remarkable results. Students become more engaged and enthusiastic about learning. They develop skills that are essential for the 21st century. Thus, preparing them for future challenges and opportunities becomes much more effective.
A Wealth of Experience as an Educator in Bangkok
With over 25 years in education, I leverage my extensive experience to create a nurturing and innovative learning environment. Whether navigating academic challenges or kindling creative talents, my approach is patient, empathetic, and results-oriented. It is always tailored to the unique needs of each learner.
Over the years, I have seen how education evolves. New methods and technologies emerge, and I continuously adapt to these changes. My goal is to provide the best possible education to my students. This involves staying updated with the latest educational trends and research.
Supporting Transitions and Multilingualism
For parents considering a switch to international schools, Supporting Your Child’s Transition to an International School or a School with a Different Language offers valuable insights on navigating this change. Adapting to a new educational environment can be challenging. However, with the right support, it becomes a rewarding experience for both students and parents.
Furthermore, my approach aligns with the ideas discussed in Transforming Language Education: From Grammar Rules to Natural Fluency. This shift from rote learning to natural fluency helps students become proficient in multiple languages. It is a crucial skill in our increasingly globalised world.
Engaging Students and Parents
A harmonious collaboration between home and school can significantly boost a child’s academic interest. This concept is detailed in Unified Efforts: How Schools and Homes Can Inspire Academic Interest through Chores (Yes, Chores!!). When parents and teachers work together, students benefit immensely.
Homework can often be a source of stress. However, Overcoming the Homework Hurdle: A Unified Approach for Thai Parents provides strategies to manage it effectively. A unified approach to homework enhances a child’s learning experience.
Additionally, understanding the local educational landscape is crucial. This is explored in Exploring the Thai Education System: Is It Doing What It Was Meant To?. Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the Thai education system helps in providing better support to students.
